In 1887, it was announced by UNICO as a World Heritage Site. Also, the Sundarban National Park was declared as a Biosphere Reserve in 1989. 

• Sundarban National Park is the largest Delta in the world, it consists of the Mangrove forest spread across India and Bangladesh, this forest is spread over 10,000 km. 

• The Indian part of the forest within Indian territory is called Sundarban National Park which is located in the southern part of West Bengal.

• The forest has a large number of beautiful trees and it is said that the forest got its name from these trees. The delta is the largest reservoir for Bengal whales.
